Kotlin, Contact Support and a new home for the IDE
Kotlin joins Java as a first-class language, plus a direct line to our team, a dedicated address for the IDE and safer connections across the whole service.
Kotlin projects Choose Kotlin in New Project and build with IntelliJ, Maven or Gradle (Kotlin DSL). Kotlin programs run, test and debug in the same isolated sandbox as Java: no open ports, no servers and no network access while your code runs.
Contact Support Report a problem, ask a question or share an idea — and get an answer from our team in a private chat.
Workspace address Your projects and the IDE now live at workspace.intellij.online. Old links keep working and you stay signed in.
Safer connections Everything you do is encrypted all the way to our servers.

Support2
New Attach screenshots, logs or files to any message.
New See at a glance when support has replied.
Editor3
New Kotlin syntax highlighting, completion, live templates such as sout, main and fori, Quick Documentation from KDoc, Go to Declaration and Find Usages.
New Reformat Code, Optimize Imports and Rename for Kotlin files, with instant checks for unclosed brackets and strings.
New New glowing Kotlin icons for files, run configurations and projects, and a New → Kotlin Class/File dialog with classes, data classes, objects, enums, sealed classes and main functions.
Build & Run3
New Run fun main() straight from the gutter or with ShiftF10, set breakpoints in Kotlin files and debug them step by step.
New The Kotlin compiler is downloaded from JetBrains, verified with SHA-256 and runs isolated with no network; Gradle compiles Kotlin inside the build process, without a separate Kotlin daemon.

Out of beta: a real Java brain and a debugger
IntelliJ.ONLINE 0.0.4 is the first release without the beta label. The editor now understands Java through the Eclipse JDT language server — the same engine behind Eclipse and VS Code Java — and you can finally debug your programs step by step with breakpoints, variables and watches. On top of that, a new Storage overview shows where your space goes, and the whole IDE feels faster and smoother.
Beta is over Projects, settings and history carry over unchanged. From now on releases are numbered without the BETA tag.
Real code understanding Completion, errors, Javadoc, usages and rename now come from Eclipse JDT — full Java semantics for your project and its Maven or Gradle dependencies.
Debugger Click the gutter to set a breakpoint and press ShiftF9. Step with F8, F7 and ShiftF8, inspect frames, threads and variables, and add watches.
Quick fixes from the compilerAltEnter offers the same fixes as a desktop IDE: add imports, create missing methods and fields, implement interfaces, add casts and more.
Go to Implementation Jump from an interface or abstract method to every implementation with CtrlAltB.
Storage overview Settings → Storage shows how much space each project takes — files, local history, build output and caches — and frees space in one click.
Faster and smoother Typing, running programs, opening projects and resizing panels are noticeably lighter, even in big projects with a lot of output.

Editor10
New Eclipse JDT Language Server powers completion, diagnostics, Javadoc on hover, signature help, find usages and rename — with a fast built-in fallback while it starts.
New Accepting a completion also adds the import it needs.
New Context actions on AltEnter: compiler quick fixes plus the code actions JDT offers at the caret.
New Library classes open as readable sources, so you can follow a call into the JDK or a dependency.
New A status indicator shows whether the language server is starting, indexing or ready.
Improved Autosave waits for a short pause in typing instead of saving on every key press, so large files stay responsive.
Improved The file tree, editor tabs and tool windows now redraw only when their own content changes.
Improved Dragging the panel dividers is smooth.
Improved Local History compares versions faster and with far less memory.
Improved Downloading a project as .zip and extracting archives no longer stall the IDE.
Navigation1
New Go to Implementation(s) with CtrlAltB — from interfaces, abstract classes and overridden methods.
Build & Run8
New A new Debug button and ShiftF9 start the current configuration under the debugger.
New Line breakpoints in the gutter, kept per project and verified when classes load.
New Resume (F9), Pause, Stop, Step Over (F8), Step Into (F7), Step Out (ShiftF8) and Run to Cursor (AltF9).
New Frames and threads, an expandable Variables tree with editable values, watches and expression evaluation.
New Optional break on exceptions; the paused line is highlighted in the editor.
Improved Runs and builds start faster: only the files changed since the last run are written to the workspace.
Improved Programs that print a lot no longer slow the editor down — output arrives in batches and only the visible console is redrawn.
Improved A program that runs out of memory is stopped with a clear message instead of a cryptic crash.
Project4
New Settings → Storage: used space per project, largest first, with buttons to clear build output, local history and dependency caches.
New Your projects are backed up automatically every day.
New Legal documents moved from Settings to their own section in the sidebar.
Improved A wider Settings window.
Fixes7
Fixed Live updates and collaboration now use WebSockets in production instead of falling back to polling.
Fixed Fixed a missing file icon for audio files after an icon library update.
Fixed Fixed the Generate menu closing as soon as it opened from the editor context menu.
Fixed Fixed Close Project freezing the page when a shared or read-only file was open.
Fixed Fixed Settings not opening from the Feature Guide.
Fixed Fixed the console growing without limit when a program printed without line breaks.
Fixed Close Project now asks before leaving if some changes could not be saved.
Known limitations4
Note Debugging is available for Java applications; debugging tests will follow.
Note The first project you open after a restart may take a little longer while the language server indexes it.
Note Each project can hold up to 8 GB and an account up to 50 GB. When space runs out, saving and builds pause until you free some up.
Note Programs can use up to 1 GB of memory; larger -Xmx or -Xms values are lowered automatically with a note in the console.
Thank you to everyone who tested the beta — your reports shaped this release.
Navigation, refactoring and tests — the IDE toolset arrives
The biggest update so far. IntelliJ.ONLINE gains the tools you reach for every minute in a desktop IDE: jump anywhere with Search Everywhere, rename safely across the project, reformat with google-java-format, run JUnit tests from the gutter and roll back any file with Local History.
Search Everywhere Press Shift twice to find files, classes, symbols and actions — or jump straight to a line with Main.java:42.
Refactoring Rename with ShiftF6, preview every usage before applying, and generate constructors, getters, equals() and toString() with AltInsert.
Code style Reformat Code with google-java-format (CtrlAltL) and Optimize Imports (CtrlAltO).
JUnit 5 Run a test method or a whole class from the gutter and read the results in a dedicated Tests tree.
Local History Every save is versioned automatically. Compare any version with the current file and revert in one click.
Find in Files Search and replace across the whole project with regex, whole-word and file-mask filters (CtrlShiftF).
23 new 5 improved 4 fixed
Editor6
New Reformat Code powered by google-java-format; select lines to format only them.
New Optimize Imports removes unused imports and sorts the rest.
New Parameter Info (CtrlP) shows every overload and highlights the current argument.
New Quick fixes on AltEnter: safe delete unused code, remove unused imports, add missing imports.
New Live Templates you can edit: sout, psvm, fori, iter and more, with fields and $END$.
Improved Redesigned symbol icons for classes, interfaces, enums, methods and fields, with visibility markers.
Navigation5
New Search Everywhere with Files, Classes, Symbols and Actions tabs, fuzzy matching and camel-hump search — open it with ShiftShift or the toolbar.
New Go to Line:Column with CtrlG.
New File Structure popup with CtrlF12 — filter members and jump to them.
New Split the editor: move a tab to the right group and work on two files side by side.
Improved The active tab now always scrolls into view.
Search3
New Find in Files and Replace in Files with a live preview, per-file selection and file masks such as *.java, !*Test.java.
New A new find and replace panel inside the file: match case, whole words, regex, an occurrence counter and Replace All.
New Results can be pinned to the Search tool window.
Refactoring3
New Rename for local variables, fields, methods and classes — scoped correctly, with a preview and checkboxes for every occurrence.
New Renaming a class also renames its file.
New Generate: constructor, getters, setters, equals() / hashCode() and toString().
Testing4
New Run markers next to JUnit test classes and methods; CtrlShiftF10 runs the test under the caret.
New A Tests tab with passed, failed and skipped results, failure messages and clickable stack traces.
New New Maven and Gradle projects include JUnit 5 out of the box; older projects get an "Add JUnit 5 to the build" quick fix.
New Test sources are checked against test dependencies, and test methods are no longer reported as unused.
Local History3
New Local History for every file, grouped by day, with a side-by-side diff.
New Recent Changes lists every edited file — including deleted ones, which can be restored.
New Reformat, rename and revert create labelled checkpoints.
Project1
New Download the whole project as a .zip archive.
Mobile3
Improved Code lines no longer wrap on phones — scroll sideways while line numbers stay pinned. Wrapping can be turned back on in Settings.
Improved The problems counter no longer overlaps editor tabs.
Improved All new popups open as bottom sheets with touch-sized rows.
Fixes4
Fixed Inspections now appear as soon as a project opens, without typing first.
Fixed Focus rings and dialogs are calmer: no white outlines and no inputs focused on open.
Fixed Fixed Rename treating fields of secondary classes as local variables.
Fixed Fixed the caret and undo history being reset after a refactoring.
Known limitations1
Note Some browsers reserve CtrlN and CtrlShiftN — use ShiftShift or the search button in the toolbar instead.

A full web IDE — write, compile, run
IntelliJ.ONLINE is live. Not a toy editor and not a demo — a working web IDE for real Java projects. Open the browser, create a project, and ship code without installing a JDK or a desktop IDE.
Editor Completion, quick documentation, go to declaration and find usages — backed by JDK and dependency sources.
Inspections Errors from javac as you type, plus highlighting for unused imports, fields, methods and variables.
Build Plain Java, Maven or Gradle projects on managed JDKs from 8 up — the whole module, not snippets.
Run Start a main method from the gutter, type into stdin, and read the output in the console.
Project Upload files, extract .zip and .rar archives, and download build artifacts straight from the tree.
4 new
Editor1
New Errors from a failed build are marked on the right lines in the editor.
Build & Run2
New Run configurations for applications, JAR files, Maven goals and Gradle tasks — with arguments, VM options and environment variables.
New Reload Maven and Gradle projects to resolve dependencies and their sources.
Project1
New Project Structure: switch the JDK and language level per project.
Known limitations2
Note Programs work through the console; desktop windows and graphical interfaces are not available.
Note Long-running processes are stopped automatically to keep resources fair for everyone.
This is a beta, but it is meant to be used. Thank you for being here for the first cut — open a project and try a full compile.
